Have you heard about the new Translation Memory Studio? Hmm, which one was that? The new one you say? Which new one - SDL TRADOS Studio or Wordfast Studio?

See the similarity? Both Translation Memory (TM) software products are called “Studio” even though they are from competing Language Technology Providers. What’s more, both providers radically changed their traditional naming principles to include “Studio” and launched their Translation Software “Studio” products just months apart.

Does this mean, then, that “Studio” is the new black?

These technology providers are competitors with JiveFusion Technologies and with each other. Let’s clarify this. When these Translation Memory Software products called “Studio” were launched, they essentially gave up on any competitive advantage in branding and threw uniqueness to the wind - immediately setting our Translation Memory Solutions at JiveFusion Technologies apart. Our Fusion Suite of Translation Memory Software and Project Management Software, which includes Fusion One, Fusion Collaborate, and Fusion Coordinate doesn’t include the word “Studio”.

We see Translation Technology as a niche industry and we strive to make our Translation Memory Solutions shine. When competitive Translation Memory Solution products appear with similar names and functionality, our TM Software becomes more easily identifiable and apt to become the preferred alternative to both solutions, particularly as our Fusion Suite is compatible with their tagged formats. We aren’t complaining.

Did these technology providers plan on using the same name, or was it a marketing bungle? If it was a genuine mistake, why didn’t the Wordfast or the SDL TRADOS Marketing team change the word “Studio” realising there was a product released with the same version name?
